Check out what’s been going on in a busy week at London 2012...The UCI Track Cycling World Cup, presented by Samsung, took place last weekend, with cyclists getting a flavour of what the atmosphere will be like in the Velodrome come Games time.

The track lived up to its reputation as one of the fastest in the world as Victoria Pendleton and Jess Varnish smashed the world record on their way to gold in the women's Team Sprint final.

 

Chris Hoy celebrates winning the sprint

Sir Chris Hoy, who helped in the design process for the Velodrome, had the crowd on their feet on Sunday as he followed up his gold medal in the Keirin with an impressive win in the men's Sprint.

Great Britain team rider Ed Clancy said of the Velodrome: 'The place was alive in there, it was pretty special. We’ve never experienced an atmosphere like that'.

No sooner had the Track Cycling finished, it was time for the divers to move into the spotlight as the 18th FINA Visa Diving World Cup got underway on Monday in the Aquatics Centre. This is the first ever sporting event to be staged in the new venue and the first opportunity for divers to test the waters under the wave-like roof.

Finally, it was announced this week that the Olympic Closing Ceremony would be titled  ‘A Symphony of British Music’. The theme will celebrate the fact that music has been one of Britain’s strongest cultural exports over the last 50 years. Here you can see testing for the lighting taking place in the Olympic Stadium.
