Last week, Simon Wright (Director - ODA Infrastructure & Utilities) and I went along to Port Cullis House opposite the House of Commons to give evidence to the Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform select committee. The Committee is appointed by the
The Committee were obviously very interested in the ODA’s work as it will become one of the biggest construction projects in Europe with hundreds of contracts and thousands of workers. Our job was to put the project into context by outlining its scale and complexity and how the work is being packaged. We talked about progress to date, what and which stage of the construction programme we are at and outlined the Milestones to Beijing.
The Committee asked us about the role of small and medium-sized businesses in the project. As we have just launched the Business Network, we were able to give them early information about CompeteFor, the new online resource that gives businesses of all sizes access to Games related business opportunities.
Among other things, MPs asked about our approach to contracts, supply chain procurement and Union engagement. We also talked about our commitment to health and safety and how our approach to skills and training lay at the heart of the project. By hosting the 2012 Games in London, we intend to leave a legacy for skills and training. It will certainly change lives – what a lasting legacy we will leave for London.
