Olympic Park health and safety impresses Lord
Lawrence, ODA Health and Safety
The Minister for Health and Safety, Lord McKenzie, first visited the Olympic Park site a year ago. This week he came back accompanied by the Chief Inspector for the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) to see how we are progressing and to find out more about o

The tour provided a first hand opportunity to view the tremendous amount of work going on throughout the site, from Eton Manor in the north of the Park through to the Stadium and Aquatics sites in the south. The Minister was particularly impressed with the bank of soil washing machines installed on the Park, so we met with Graham Hughes, Project Director for Nuttall, who showed us around the fantastic laboratory facility which has high tech kit able to detect metals and organics in soil.
In just a couple of hours it isn’t easy to convey the scale and complexity of the construction programme, but the site tour helps bring each of the issues to life. Soon after the visit, we received a note from Lord McKenzie’s private office: 'Lord McKenzie was very impressed with the work that is going on and especially the effective management structures that seem to be in place.'
