The Olympic Stadium for 2012 isn't finished yet, but looking at the photo from the webcam I think it will be just as amazing as in 1948.

Back in 1948 and making a splash, Keith Carter of the USA (lane 8) won the second heat of the Men's 100m Freestyle in style at the Empire Pool in Wembley.
Nearly 60 years later, timekeeping has advanced, with touch boards allowing us to confirming race timings and race winners. Rebecca Adlington (left) and Joanne Jackson celebrate winning medals in the Women's 400m Freestyle final at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. I'm sure the action will be just as exciting in the Aquatics Centre in 2012.

The British Cycling Pursuit Team, (left to right) Leonard Meredith,
Ernest Payne, Charles Kingsbury and Benjamin Jones, won a gold medal at the
London 1908 Olympic Games.
By the Beijing Games, 100 years on, the bikes and outfits have changed in the world of cycling, but Team GB are still an inspiration – bringing back an impressive haul of medals.
