Next Stratford works in sight
Richard, Stratford Programme Director
After successfully completing our initial upgrade to Stratford Regional Station (SRS) last month, we are now gearing up for our next major set of works that will help prepare SRS to be the gateway to the Games. As part of these works, which will occur over

We will also begin work on the disused eastern subway. This subway will be reopened for the Games to create additional access to platforms and allow for easier interchange between Rail, Underground and DLR services. This next phase of work will see the floor lowered to eventually increase the height of the subway and preliminary works undertaken to create staircase access from the subway to platform 6/8.

Additionally, we will be lifting into place the beams that will carry the new westbound Central line platform, ready for construction and fit out at a later date. By lifting these beams in over Christmas, we can take advantage of the simultaneous track possessions and avoid the need to separately disrupt the network.
DLR will also be conducting a series of works over this period, including initial preparations to extend the western and central subways, which will eventually link to a new northern Ticket Hall and new North London Line platform.
Where possible, we will ensure this next set of works is integrated with other Network Rail track possessions, such as the closure of Liverpool Street, and with other track renewal activities in the surrounding area to minimise disruption to passengers.
The Christmas works follow the first part of the £104 million SRS upgrade, which saw a 100m stretch of platform widened to an extra 3.2m at its widest point to create extra space and capacity for passengers.
Commuters to east London will continue to gradually enjoy the benefits that our package of works are producing. In 2012, the enhanced and fully accessible SRS will play a critical part in helping us host a ‘public transport’ Games.
