Making my Parliamentary debut
Tara, ODA External Relations Assistant
It has been a busy few weeks since I joined the External Relations team at the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) and yesterday was no exception. It was an early morning starting preparing for a visit from the vice Mayor of Beijing who was here for a tour o

Next it was on to the important business of the drop-in event and the reason why we were all there! Representatives from the ODA, London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG), and the Northwest Regional Development Agency hosted the event to give MPs and Peers from the north west region a chance to meet with us.

Giving them the opportunity to ask questions; find out about the progress of the Games; and find out about how the Games can benefit them and their region. This is part of a series of events to all the nations and regions of the UK to highlight the opportunities generated by the Games and the lasting benefits it can create.

Over the next 18 months there will be an intense period of procurement with thousands of contracts to be awarded throughout the supply chain. Working alongside the regional development agencies we want to let businesses know how they can compete for these contracts.

The ODA will be revisiting all nine English regions of the UK and the three devolved administrations. We will be speaking to businesses and giving them the opportunity to come and meet with our contactors and find out more on opportunities that will be generated by the Games. Further details of these and CompeteFor are available on the Business Network.

Beverley Hughes MP, Ian McCartney MP and Jonathan Edwards:

With important debates in the Commons and Lords taking place we were pleased with the excellent turn out, including the Minister for the north west Beverley Hughes and Olympic medallist Peer Lord Glentoran, the Conservative Lords Spokesman on London 2012. All in all the event was a huge success and for me personally it topped off another exciting day at the ODA.
