After the excitement of shoes and David Beckham in one morning, it was time for a more sobering experience with the 'Disposable People – Contemporary Global Slavery' exhibition and the 'Koestler' Exhibition both at the Southbank Centre. Whilst 'Disposable people' was a sharp reminder of the difficulties faced by other cultures the world over, the Koestler exhibition of art created by prison inmates was uplifting and funny in some places as well as being really impressive. After voting for my favourite artist (fingers crossed he wins!) it was time to track down Billy Bragg for his mass busking session.
Not being much of a musician I was thrilled to be given a song sheet and allowed to warble along with the 350 guitar players who turned up and filled the Southbank with music. We even had our very own brass section as some brave trombone players came along, not to mention the few people who'd brought their combs and tissue paper to help join in the fun. It's not often you see thousands of people singing along together (thankfully drowning out my own efforts) in the heart of London and Billy Bragg kept everyone laughing with his jokes to make it a really memorable occasion.
After all that singing it was time to head upstairs to Concrete for some liquid refreshment and enjoy DJ Nick Luscombe's Flomotion set of more contemporary culture before heading off happily to bed ready to start it all over again on Sunday.
