Progress on the Olympic Village is also really impressive:
I remember in Singapore in 2005 when London as a bidding city went to present its plans for the Games to the IOC.
Back then it was a dream, it was some ideas. Today, it is a reality.
I am looking at superb modern venues, a beautiful Park set in green space. The venues are modern and belong to the 21st century, they will be the best.
I am convinced that the London 2012 Games will be an amazing historical event.
My message for all the athletes who will come here is to celebrate the Games, and the history. Everything has been laid on for young people, and it is a chance for athletes to be part of a dream and Olympic history.
With an Olympic Stadium, the most important thing is that it is constructed to meet three needs – the needs of athletes, spectators and media. The design needs to be flexible and London's Stadium I believe will meet these three needs.
I have always enjoyed competing in Britain. My best memory is of running in Oxford in 2000, a year after I had become the men’s mile world record holder, and meeting Sir Roger Bannister who broke the four minute mile. It was a huge privilege to meet him, on the very track he broke the record. He is like a spiritual father to me, and this was one of the best moments of my career.
I wish everyone involved in this huge project in London good luck.
