Welcome to the weekly round-up following the London 2012 qualification process as athletes and teams compete to secure their place at the Games.

The last seven days..

hockey pictogram75x75Hockey: The second men’s Olympic qualifying tournament concluded on Sunday in Dublin, with hosts Ireland taking on South Korea in the final. In what proved to be an exciting match, the South Koreans came back from 2-1 down to secure their place in London with the winning goal coming just two seconds from the end of the game, clinching a 3-2 victory.

As the men’s tournament ended, the women’s was just starting in Kontich, Belgium. The Irish women’s team will be hoping to go one better than the men’s; with a game to spare they have made the final this Sunday and will take on the hosts Belgium, with the winner booking their place at London 2012. The third and final Olympic qualifying tournaments for both the men and women take place at the end of April in Japan. Keep up to date with the women’s final on the FIH website


Wrestling pictogramWrestling: The Africa and Oceania Qualifying Tournament took place last weekend in Morocco. Both the men’s and women’s Freestyle and Greco-Roman events had two slots available in each of the weight categories. Rowing pictogramRowing: The 2012 Latin American Olympic Qualification Regatta got underway yesterday in Buenos Aires, and runs until Sunday 25 March. There are three nominal slots on offer in both the men’s and women’s Lightweight Double Sculls, six in the men’s Single Sculls and five in the women’s Single Sculls. 


Swimming PictogramSwimming:  The 2012 EnergyAustralia Swimming finished on Thursday after eight days of competition with Australia putting forward a total of 41 athletes (21 men, 23 women) for consideration for selection to the Olympic team. France are also currently holding their national championships which serve as selection trials for London 2012. The event, which concludes on Sunday, is taking place in Dunkerque and sees former Olympic champion Laure Manaudou amongst those looking to gain a top two finish and the Olympic qualifying time to ensure they are put forward for selection to the team.

Boxing pictogramBoxing: The Oceania Olympic Qualifying Tournament is currently  taking place in Canberra, Australia, with one nominal qualification spot up for grabs in each weight division. The event runs until 26 March and will be the last opportunity for boxers in the Oceanic region to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games. Full results on the AIBA website

The week ahead...

Wrestling pictogramWrestling: The Pan-American Olympic Qualifying Tournament starts today in Orlando, Florida and runs until Sunday. There are two slots available in each of the weight categories for both men and women. You can keep up to date with the results on the FILA website

Sailing pictogramSailing: The RS:X World Windsurfing Championships 2012 have just got underway in Cadiz, Spain and continue until 28 March. On offer for competitors are nine slots in the men’s competition and seven in the women’s. View the current standings on the Championship website

Football pictogramFootball: The men's Oceanic Olympic Qualification Tournament comes to a head this Sunday in Taupo, New Zealand, with Fiji and New Zealand meeting in the final. The winner will secure a place at London 2012. View the schedule and results on the tournament website
