This morning Olympian Mark Foster joined London 2012 mascots Wenlock and Mandeville to launch the London 2012 Active Travel programme

The Active Travel programme aims to capture the opportunities offered by the London 2012 Games to encourage more walking and cycling in the lead-up to, during and after the Games.

Mark Foster was joined by a couple of familiar faces at the launch.

The launch took place on a stretch of newly-improved walking and cycling route in Hackney. This section is just one of 113 schemes across eight routes, which make up over 75km of improved walking and cycling routes around the Olympic Park

The section used for the photo shoot was incredibly well used throughout the morning, showing that these routes are already popular and will offer a lasting legacy for the boroughs through which they pass.

Representatives from Transport for London, the Olympic Delivery Authority, the London 2012 Organising Committee and Sustrans attended to show their support, offer interviews and get a sneaky photo with the mascots!

Never before has an Olympic and Paralympic Games placed such an emphasis on encouraging walking and cycling to Games venues and ensuring a long-term legacy. The launch of the programme and routes is just the start and as London 2012 approaches, I for one am really excited about what we can achieve!
