Darcia, Starting Blocks programme
Living the dream at LOCOG
Darcia, Starting Blocks programme
Athletics is the biggest sporting event of all time. I've always enjoyed watching but most importantly taking part. I started off just competing and representing my school, then that led from one thing to another. I started competing all around the countr

I applied and did a couple of interviews. The interviews were great because I wasn't scared. They made me feel welcomed and treated me like a young adult. During the interview I met a few others that also shared the same interest as me and so we got talking to each other.
It all got very exciting on 3 September 2007. This was it my first day at work with nine others. We had a two week induction with lots of fun and exciting things for us, which came as a surprise because it’s rumoured that work ain't fun!!!!
In the first week we had presentations from a few of the departments, we went kayaking (that was a lot of fun I HAVE to do it again), and the second week we had some more presentation, we got a tour of the Dome (a 2012 venue) and we went to a group lunch.

At the Olympic Park site:

After all those presentations we had to decide on which department we would like to join. After making our choice we would be within that department for three months and then we will have another three months rotation (it sounds fun I know, I’m just happy to have this opportunity at my feet).
Week number three. We are now all with our teams that we have chosen in the past week. We're also now OFFICIALLY working for LOCOG which to me is hard to believe (I hear celebrities say it all the time "I'm living the dream" but they’re not because I am!!!). So far I know that we’re all happy, loving it and also enjoying it but I think the most important thing is that we make the most of it.
The main highlights of this week would be without a doubt the launch. LOCOG announced that adidas was the main sportswear sponsor. That was a different experience and I really enjoyed it, in fact I was lost for words at the end (it was that good).
I know that there will be many more to come in the future and I look forward to it and also working with the company. I've already made some gooooooooood friends!!!
The team is really lovely. There is a lot of excitement and enthusiasm. I can't wait to see how fantastic the Games are going to be…
