Adrian, work experience
Learning new skills during work experience at the ODA
Adrian, work experience
A typical summer’s morning is non-existent for an 18 year old, for a typical summer’s morning begins at 1pm!

But once you’ve battled with your mind to get up at 6am - convincing yourself you’re not getting up for school - you begin to think of the benefits of voluntary work experience.

I began on Monday (travelling from east London with freshly polished shoes) and was warmly welcomed. Then leaving London 2012 headquarters behind me to return to familiar territory back in east London, I found myself on the Olympic Park site at the offices of the Employment and Skills team, getting to see what their jobs entail, which I very much enjoyed.

Each day was different and involved meeting new people at a new department, in a new environment. The only recurring theme that derived through my week was the differing places and people I saw – definitely a bonus!

There wasn’t really a major downside to this placement. I learnt, I networked and I had fun, what more can you ask for?

Treasured moments for me would firstly be visiting the Olympic Park site: you know it’s going to be big prior to getting there... but not THAT big! My other top moment was meeting the London 2012 Business Network team and learning how the system works (a brokerage service offering compnies the chance to bid for London 2012 business opportunities).

A big thank you to everyone I’ve met - you’ve all played your part in making this a truly worthwhile experience. Now for the next chapter in my life... bring on uni!!! :-)
