My job as 2012 Sailing competition manager is to learn, record, take feedback and become completely conversant with what is required to deliver the best Olympic Sailing event. If I can also help in any way in 2008, I will and my hosts the Chinese team lead by sailing competition manger Qu Chun have been great in making me feel completely welcome. I already have office space, total access to all areas and an open door policy with my hosts. I could not ask for any more help and already feel that the four years which start on August 24th will only just be enough time to help put on this great event.
There is a slight nervousness that we will be able to match the scale of the Chinese budget, after they have created probably the best Olympic sailing venue to date. However if we focus on the attention to detail that has the athletes, spectators, press and sport of sailing at the centre, then I am sure we will succeed. It will be an interesting month: watching, learning and then over four years finally transferring our vision into reality in Weymouth and Portland.
Truly exciting times and with the first test event in 2010, it really feels as if it is just around the corner!
