Last month I promised that we would be releasing fantastic World Sport Day resources every month to help make your celebration on Monday 25 June a day you will never forget. True to my word, I present the London 2012 Mascot Dance!

For those of you too shy to ask for a reminder, London 2012 World Sport Day (presented by Lloyds TSB) is a mass fun-day which gives schools and communities across the UK the chance to celebrate the athletes and cultures of the world. On World Sport Day we’re encouraging schools to host their very own opening ceremony, among a range of other activities.

Enter the Mascot Dance, the perfect ready-made headline act.

We launched the Mascot Dance video and choreography resources last week to help pupils around the UK learn the moves in time for their World Sport Day celebrations. This is, of course, a treat in itself. But the four schools who were involved in creating the dance and feature in the video received an extra special gift.

Surprise visit

Whilst running through the dance at Chingford Foundation School for a photo shoot (or so we had them believe), their rehearsals were interrupted by a surprise visit from none other than McFly’s Tom Fletcher and his sister Carrie, the performers of the London 2012 Mascot Song.

After the youngsters picked their jaws up from the floor, they taught Tom and Carrie some of the dance moves, who in return treated them to a rendition of the Mascot Song 'On a Rainbow'.

So do you think you can shake it like Wenlock and Mandeville? Watch the video and download the online guide to view the step-by-step choreography and become a pro in no time! Even if you’re not a student or a teacher, you can still learn the steps and become a source of envy to all your friends and family. And remember, you still have four whole months to rehearse the moves before your performance on Monday 25 June.

But just a few words of caution before you put on those dancing shoes. First, I urge you all to stretch before you start, wear loose clothing, and make sure there are no coffee tables or light fixtures in your way. And finally, please note that the Mascot Dance is highly addictive, so clear your diaries and divert your phones to voicemail!
