The project is led by the School Food Trust which provides free, healthy recipes inspired by different countries that have links to the Games, and encourages schools to use them to teach languages. And the development of language skills couldn't be more important as we prepare to welcome the world to the Games in 2012.
Hosting the Games gives us a great opportunity to use links with the 205 competing nations to inspire young people to develop their language skills. This project is taking that opportunity one step further by incorporating cooking and healthy eating into an exciting programme that I’m sure will make learning languages really fun and motivating for students.
The children at Eldon Junior School certainly had fun making smoothies and trying out a bit of Portuguese, and I hope young people across the UK will too!
