I took a break from my holiday today for a quick commuter flight from Melbourne to the Olympic Park in Sydney and the opportunity to meet some of our 2012 hopefuls - currently here for the Australian Youth Olympic Festival that starts next Wednesday.

It is always refreshing to re-enter a world where performance is measurable in a way in which it isn’t in most professions. And equally refreshing to sit with a group of the young competitors so hungry to learn anything that might make that difference to their performance in competition.

From young Gymnasts (below) to more seasoned Hockey players, all with one dream – just being the best and winning in their own back yard, in London 2012.

If ever I needed remind myself why we went to Singapore in 2005 to bid for the 2012 Games, these are the moments that really do it.
