Last week construction started three months ahead of schedule on the Olympic Stadium. To mark the milestone, an event was organised at the Team Stadium site offices which included the first visit by Prime Minister Gordon Brown as well as new Mayor of Lond

Seb Coe shows Gordon Brown and Sarah Brown the Stadium site from the bridge that links the site offices to the construction zone:

Piling will create 4,000 concrete columns in the ground that will then become the foundations for the Stadium structure:

Latest viewing of the Olympic Stadium - you can see the 2012 hoardings that surround the construction zone and beyond the piling rigs at work. In the far distance is the 'bowl cut', where the below ground-level seating will bring spectators closer to the action. This is a viewpoint we'll be taking pictures from over the coming months and years as the Stadium comes out of the ground:

The Prime Minister was able to walk onto the Stadium site within a designated safe area and chat with some of the construction workers:

Chris Tomlinson, Long jump and Goldie Sayers, Javelin were also at the event and chatted to Gordon Brown and John Armitt:
