Here those elements extend to the tiniest of logos changed from Olympic to Paralympic on doors, on insignificant signs and on every part of the in-Village buses to name but a few examples. Two others stand out for me:
1. In the city close to our accommodation, where McDonalds - a TOP sponsor and not yet a 'world IPC sponsor' - have changed their door signage to Paralympic.
2. The most significant and a first in my experience is one around 'golf carts'. The golf cart is a status symbol in the Village. If you are able to acquire or have use of one it saves you hours of leg-work moving around the Village. But as the expression goes, they are as scarce as 'hen’s teeth'.
For the Paralympic Games this exclusive form of personal travel becomes even more noticeable as often they are spontaneously and graciously used by their owners in transit to pick up athletes with real ambulant difficulties. But I have never seen an adapted golf cart. That is until today. Yet another sign of a country determined to practice what it preaches in terms of 'equal splendour' and 'same level of service' even in those details that past organisers have thought too difficult or not worth the effort. The signs are there of a spectacular part 2 of the Beijing experience.
