One athlete with no thoughts of retirement though was Ben Rushgrove (below). Ben recently talked to London 2012 staff about his experiences in sport, and we were blown away by his enthusiasm and ambitions for his sport.

I'm happy to report that Ben won double gold in the 100 and 200 metres in his class, and in the latter took two-tenths of a second off the world record into a strong headwind.

Quite how much of this wind was created by 3000 schoolchildren armed with ‘thundersticks’ can be debated!



Overall the event again offered an excellent showcase for Paralympic sport, giving British Paralympic athletes the experience of competing in front of a home crowd against world-class opposition, which will aid their preparation for 2012.
