Getting ready to take the Torch at Vancouver 2010

I am in Vancouver with a small team from London 2012 to observe the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games. This is the last Games before London 2012 and therefore our final opportunity to learn as much as we can to help with our own planning.

This is my third day here with our CEO Paul Deighton and we have just presented an update report to the International Olympic Committee, who were extremely complimentary about the progress that we continue to make.

The Olympic Games officially commence with the Opening Ceremony this evening. The aspect that has impressed me the most so far is the volunteers, who have clearly been very well trained and are helpful, knowledgeable, friendly, approachable and passionate about the Games. An Olympic or Paralympic Games is simply not possible without volunteers and they are crucial to making a Games a success.

One of the highlights of my trip will be running in the Torch Relay and taking the flame from Arnold Schwarznegger in Stanley Park – one of the most picturesque places in Vancouver. It's a very early start for me but well worth it, I'm sure. Look out for the pictures after!
