Here’s some feedback from Becky from East Norfolk Playing for Success Centre, based at Cliff Park High School in Gorlestone:
'Being part of the Get Set network, our centre won the opportunity to go on a tour around the Olympic Park. This allowed nine Olympic Ambassadors and nine of our centre’s mentors to have the opportunity of a lifetime!
Miss Bivens, our centre manager, said: ‘Our young people use the upcoming Olympic Games and Olympic Values as a means to engage and inspire others. This is such a perfect reward for their commitment and I am delighted for us all!’
Many of us had not been out of Great Yarmouth in our lives, and had never been on a train or tube. We were so very excited – we had to go through a security check and they even used a sniffer dog! We felt like VIPs. It was amazing to see all the venues close up. We expected it to look like a building site but the venues are really taking shape. We found out many interesting facts, including that they aimed for 90% recycling of waste but have achieved an amazing 97%!
We went for lunch at the View Tube, which looks out onto the Olympic Park. We took advantage of the view to do some filming and take even more photos! In the afternoon we had an amazing time doing a mini tour of London – we went to Canary Wharf, the Houses of Parliament and even saw 10 Downing Street.
I am so proud of my school and centre. I am so fortunate to have an opportunity like this, and to be in the Olympic Park in the lead up to the Games! It was a day we will remember for the rest of our lives.’
As Becky says, it was a great day and we’re so glad all the students loved the experience – we’re looking forward to taking more students to see the site. Trips to the Olympic Park are just one of many ways we reward network members for living the Olympic and Paralympic Values – so check out the Get Set website to see what’s new and for more ways you and your school can get involved!
