I
remember the youngest of the
models, 13-year-old Ellen Gandy (second
from the right in the photo above) from Beckenham, was very nervous having to dive onto trampolines
so that we could later super-impose them onto the Thames Barrier.
Since then, I
have watched Ellen become a world class athlete and today, six years later, she won a
silver medal at the World Swimming Championships in Shanghai.
With
only one year to go until the Games, the dream is
becoming very real. It would be one of those magical stories of London
2012 if we’re cheering Ellen to a medal in that sparkling new Aquatics Centre, just a short distance away from the Thames Barrier.
