It never ceases to amaze me how creative and genuinely inspiring artists can be. The results of the first commissions awarded for Unlimited – our major disability arts project – were announced today. The commission panel have really done us proud. It soun

So what have you got to look forward to I hear you cry? There’s circus; site-specific choral music with projections; new street arts inspired by Blake in Greenwich; storytelling in Wales linking each of the nations; new theatre, visual arts and even mime, movement and visual theatre using British Sign Language. Phew!

But one of the submissions from CandoCo (one of the UK’s most well known integrated dance companies of disabled and non-disabled dancers) stood out for me as being symbolic of what we are trying to achieve.

You might recall that they worked with us on the handover in Beijing. Through Unlimited we’ve been able to commission two disabled choreographers to create a new dance piece linking Beijing, London and Rio. If you like the past, present and future of the Games. Amazingly this has never been done before.
