East London pupils get sporty to celebrate Paralympic Handover
Steve, LOCOG Programme Management team
As two weeks of fantastic sporting action draws to a spectacular finale with the closing ceremony from the Beijing Paralympic Games. It was time to celebrate this moment of handover from Beijing to London and a new and exciting chapter in 2012's journey.

I was given the task of being the referee for Boccia, a sport ParalympicsGB won gold in at Beijing! The aim of Boccia is to throw or bowl a ball so that it lands as close as possible to the target ball, called a 'jack', the team that's closest wins. There were some fantastic and tight matches making my job as referee extremely difficult but very fun.

After everyone had finished taking part in the various sports, it was time to watch the Handover Ceremony on a big screen that had been set up in the sports hall. Having thoroughly enjoyed helping out on what had been a fantastic way to celebrate the Paralympic Handover, I headed back to work excited knowing that along with the various school children, teachers and coaches that had been there, that next time the Paralympic Games will be on our very own doorstep!
