We will be awarding 12 commissions of up to £500,000 to create 12 new works of art across the country; one in each of the nine English regions, and in the nations of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. This makes it the largest commission fund within the Cultural Olympiad, and one which will provide artists across the country with an unparalleled opportunity to create work that celebrates the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
I hope any artists who haven’t yet submitted their big idea will be inspired to do so, and can’t wait to see where this project will take us when we decide the shortlist in the summer.
