In fact, for London 2012 we're building more temporary structures than the last three Olympic Games – Beijing, Athens and Sydney – put together. It is certainly a challenge.
Although we're using a large number of existing iconic venues and locations, such as Horse Guards Parade (Beach Volleyball), Wembley (Football) and Wimbledon (Tennis), each venue, whether new, existing or temporary, will undergo a detailed overlay design process.
The term 'overlay' means the temporary works and installations that are added at a venue specifically to accommodate the requirements for the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
This is currently underway and will take around two years to complete.
In parallel with this process we will begin the procurement of multiple overlay commodities and services from September 2009 onwards.
With so many venues to design and complete, the procurement process will be lengthy. So don’t worry if we’re not yet looking in the area your company specialises in. We will be soon!
