Since joining the London 2012 team in December a large part of my role has been communicating new developments and progress on the Olympic Park to the general public through the London 2012 website. As a result, I’ve worked with hundreds of images taken b
Our site tour with some of my colleagues:
When driving around the site, what struck me was how busy it is – construction vehicles bustle along the roads transporting materials between different locations, there are huge piles of soil on the VeloPark site ready to be sorted and cleaned, and other mounds of concrete nearby which are ready to be used to create new roads or for building. The landscape is vast and varied and it takes a bit of imagination to picture how the area will look in 2012.
Soil is sorted and washed:
The most impressive part of our tour was getting to drive right through the middle of the Olympic Stadium bowl. With the site on schedule for construction to start in summer, you can already see the bowl shape beginning to take place and approximately 50,000 cubic metres of soil is being dug from the site every week. It really is huge and we tried to guess where the different sporting events would take place on the area during the Games.
Work takes place on the Stadium bowl:
With evident progress taking place on site every day, you can’t help but get excited about how the Olympic Park will look when it’s completed in time for the Games in 2012. With the speed things are happening, I’m sure when I return to site for my next visit yet more developments will have taken place and the site will look very different.
