I put a few questions to ParalympicsGB gold medallist Zoe Robinson and London 2012 hopeful (and current GB team member) Andrew Morgan to find out why they're looking forward to London 2012...just three years from now. They answered as follows...
What is your greatest achievement so far?
Andrew: Winning silver team medal at the Europeans this year.
Zoe: Getting selected to play in Beijing and the team winning gold. What a fantastic experience from start to finish.
What do you think about the Games coming to London?
Andrew: It's a great opportunity to publicise our very talented athletes and hopefully it should inspire us to win more medals.
I'd love to see my mum burst into tears. It would be my 1st Paralympics and I cannot think of any other place that I would rather compete in!
Zoe: The Games coming to London is great, the amount of British people that will be able to come along and watch will be fantastic. People who have never watched Boccia before will get hooked on it, hopefully, and support the GB team!
What will you be doing over the next three years in order to prepare for London 2012?
Andrew: I would hope to retain my place in the GB team and improve my game by training for 1-2 hours daily. I'd like to build a greater relationship with other team members, to train with them and compete as often as possible.
Zoe: I hope to be in London 2012 by training hard and being fully committed to my training programme.
Boccia is one of the lesser known Paralympic sports...what can be done about that?
Andrew: I believe it should get more publicity in the media, for instance they should offer more coverage as should local stations when competitions are being held in the region.
Zoe: In Bury we are raising the awarness of Boccia by going into schools and youth groups showing them how to play and setting up groups. Also at the local leisure centre we had a day in June doing Boccia and there is hopefully one again in October.
....Yes, after Paralympic gold in Beijing, it is clear that GB's Boccia players are setting their sights on another world-class performance in London!
