BOA visit the Olympic Village

Today the British Olympic Association (BOA) CEO, Andy Hunt and Games Operations Director, Mark England made their first visit to the Olympic Village construction site.

The purpose of the visit was to orientate themselves in terms of access points, the location of the residential blocks, service areas including transport mall and dining areas. This level of detail is essential research in their London 2012 athlete services planning process if they are to repeat, or even exceed the magnificent Beijing 2008 result.

Both Andy and Mark were delighted with the design profile and construction progress they observed on site. Now that Block 15 has substantial above ground build it is possible to get a real sense of how the Village will develop as it turns the flat two dimensional plans we have had for the past six years into a solid profile.

This picture shows the group in front of Block 15 and include Tim Urquhart the Lend Lease development manager; James Macleod, LOCOG NOC/NPC Relations manager; and Ralph Luck, Director of Property for the ODA:

In the view of Block 15 you can see in the foreground the start of the three storey town houses which to the rear have already been built out with level 4, the first level of the apartments being built out on the top. You can also imagine the large courtyard which will fill the centre of the block. The block is nearly 100 metres in length by 70m in width.
