Tony, Athletes Villages Manager
Beijing Olympic Village - day #95!
Tony, Athletes Villages Manager
Today brings to an end a fantastic period of close cooperation with my Beijing Village Logistics colleagues. It hardly seems 95 days ago that my 'boss' Mr Li (he's as old as my eldest son!) personally picked me up at the airport and brought me directly to

Everyone is running out of superlatives about these 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games. They will never be surpassed in terms of size, scope, resources invested and vastness of the overall plan. However, while the physical plans may never be replicated, they have demonstrated the immense power of people and that their vision of 'One World, One Dream' was not just some cliched marketeer-moment of inspiration, but a real means to increase understanding between people of so vastly different cultures - this is the power of the Games. This will be London's success too, when we galvanise the whole of the country in 2012.

This vision of a common humanity was probably innocently emphsised by my own young kids as we cycled around the local hutongs late yesterday afternoon. On one corner, primary school aged kids were pouring out of school in their normal boisterous way.

Grandparents were there to collect them and having self-made papier-mache unidentifiables pressed into their old hands as if they were jewels. Cara and Sean's words were 'it's just like our school at home-time - no difference'. Truly 'One World'.
