I say performance days rather than competition days as whilst I was obviously competing to be the best, I always thought of the Triple Jump as a performance. From geeing up the crowd with some hand clapping to the rhythmical almost dance like, hop, skip and a jump – projecting myself over 18 metres was a performance and one I thoroughly enjoyed.
Watching the young people from Criw Cymru, Wales’ first Inspire Mark project, perform a series of awe inspiring hip hop moves I couldn’t help but be inspired. They had each attended a Summer school a at the WMC and were back, rehearsing with vigour for their very own performance, last Saturday evening that was part of the WMC’s 5th birthday celebrations.
The young people were from a wide range of backgrounds, both male and female and aged between 11 and 18 but what struck me most was their fondness for one another and willingness to work together to be the best they could be, as a team – something that I, as an individual competitor, thoroughly enjoyed being part of (as you can see below!)
