I was particularly privilaged to have the opportunity to actually hold a gold medal from the Beijing Games when I met Dan Bentley who triumphed at the Paralympic Games in Boccia. I was surprised at how heavy the medal actually was! The NRE reception was very much about recognising the acheivements of those that made it to Beijing regardless of whether they had won medals and to thank them for the inspiration that they provide as we move towards 2012.
We also used the opportunity to produce a picture book to commemorate the fantastic events and activities that have taken place in the region during 2008 in celebration of the handover ceremonies from Beijing and the official launch of the Cultural Olympiad. It is great to be able to look back at how far we have come and how many young people we have managed to touch in the past year as we truly start to bring the Games to life... roll on 2012!
