It's been a privilege to announce the shortlist for Artists Taking the Lead. As you may know, in partnership with the UK Arts Councils, we put out a call earlier in the year for artists to submit their ideas to celebrate 2012 in each nation and region. 12
So not your ordinary couple of days here at London 2012 when I am surrounded by the artists who have been shortlisted (59 down from over 2,100 submissions!).
Their ideas are truly awe inspiring. From video projections on buildings to an international orchestra live and on line, a series of cloud sculptures, an Arctic island towed around the South West coast and fields of light. No matter how cynical you are you just can’t help but get excited.
For centuries artists have traditionally captured historic moments. London 2012 will be no different. The eyes of the world will be on us and artists will be able capture the moment. I can say I was there but so can you – read on…you can really be a part of the celebrations.

Who said that the great British public aren’t interested in arts and culture? The site collapsed this morning with the amount of traffic!
