Through my course at the University of Brighton in Eastbourne, I have just started work as an intern in the LOCOG Communications team – a great opportunity to learn and understand more about the whole London 2012 project. Thanks to colleagues in the ODA
It was brilliant to see the construction taking shape and working out 'what will be what' on the map in front of me. As we drove past the Olympic Stadium the true scale of the project really struck me. I have been swimming since I was "2.75yrs" (so I'm told by my gran who used to take me to our local pool) so I was really interested to see the Aquatics Centre going up; the outline of the 'wave' shaped roof designed by Zaha Hadid was there for all to see. We stopped to take photographs and I noticed the River Lea running past where the nature reserve is going to be. This was really cool to see - the sustainability of the Games is a topic that's very close to my heart and something I’ve already studied at my university.
I’ve only been at LOCOG for a few days, but I've already settled in, met an Olympian and seen major venues at the Olympic Park appearing from the ground. I've learnt something new everyday at London 2012, and I'd recommend anyone to apply to become an intern or a trailblazer. I'm delighted to have had the opportunity to be a part of the project. I'm here for 2 months and then head back to my university to do research and study around 2012 - I have to say I'd love another Park Tour when it's complete – haha, is that a bit cheeky?
