On Monday morning I had my second Games' experience in a week, again on sustainability. This time it was exploring the opportunities for a Local Environmental Programme with colleagues from other environment and sustainability groups, business groups and organisers of social enterprises.
We were looking at the potential to involve communities for the deprived areas around the Olympic Park in projects related to the Games and their environment; mobilising people who've never volunteered before to work together for community goals and overcoming the apathy that we often experience in those areas through our own work.
I enjoyed interacting with existing contacts and establishing new relationships with people I'd not come across before from the voluntary, public and private sectors including Greater London Volunteering, Lea Rivers Trust, Business in the Community, Bioregional, LDA, DCMS, local boroughs, the Community Action Network and Encams.
They were also interested in the work we do at the London Sustainability Exchange.
At the end of the meeting I could really feel the momentum behind our group to get projects running on the ground - the challenge now is to move together as so many disparate organisations, inspired by the opportunity of the Games, to promote joined up work across unusual sectors and organisations.
