A good start
Kathryn, LOCOG Education team
Yesterday, the LOCOG Education team hosted a briefing for the Education sector. This was our first chance to share our plans for the London 2012 Education Programme and to explain what we’ve been doing for the last few months. We were joined at the Vinyl F

We invited a Young Ambassador, Jasmine Scott – a Young Ambassador from Kingshurst – to join Jude Kelly (Chair of Culture, Ceremonies and Education) as co-host for the day. Jasmine is 17 years old and her role as a Young Ambassador involves promoting the benefits of sport, healthy living and the 2012 Games to other young people. She did a brilliant job on the day – sharing her thoughts and vision for 2012 on a platform with Seb and Schools Minister Jim Knight. She’s definitely one to watch...
The event was wrapped up with a quick salsa demonstration – and some audience participation – with pupils from Wingfield Primary School in Greenwich (thankfully not captured on the webcast cameras! - the pupils were excellent, the audience less so...)
I’ve been doing this job for three and a half years now and the best and most inspiring element is still meeting our audiences – talking to teachers, lecturers and most importantly young people about how they want to use the 2012 Games to help change their lives. In the lead up to last week’s event, we produced four short films with sporting and cultural personalities and representatives from schools, colleges and universities including young people from across the UK sharing what the 2012 Games mean to them and how they want their institutions to get involved. It’s always great to hear their ideas and receive their input, expertise and advice on how we can help young people across the UK and around the world to play a part.
We’ve received some great feedback from our stakeholders since the event but this is just the beginning. There’s a lot of work to be done before the launch of the London 2012 Education Programme officially in Autumn 2008. That said, I think this was a good way to start...
