As an SME owner it was fantastic that supplier diversity was mentioned time and time again and that there was a real commitment to putting in place systems and processes to make sure that becomes a reality. As part of a women-owned business, the intent put across today to ensure diversity within the new supply chain was very welcome.
I was left with the overriding impression that the London Business Network, as part of the wider London 2012 Business Network, will deliver real results for the diversity of and within the supply chain, because diversity has clearly been at the forefront of people's minds as the systems have been developed. It's important to have that focus at the start of a project - success will be much harder to achieve if it’s an add-on at the end.
This system has the opportunity to achieve powerful results by focusing on age, belief, gender, ethnicity, disability and sexual orientation - all six equalities strands. That's really exciting and will mean that the best people end up winning contracts and not just the usual suspects.
