The London 2012 Games have focused from the start on welcoming the world to a city and country that are diverse, vibrant and that have embraced sport.

The place to be

London and the UK will bring all they have to offer to the 2012 Games – the historic and the new.

The Games will blend the country’s greatest cultural assets, most iconic venues, world-famous performing arts institutions, Royal Parks, world heritage sites, theatres, museums and other attractions with Games-time sporting events, cultural festivals and celebrations. This will provide an unrivalled Games-time environment and experience.

From selecting stunning landmarks as the backdrop for venues, to creating a brand new Olympic Park in the cultural hub of east London – London 2012 has focused from the start on welcoming the world to what is a diverse, vibrant city and country.

The building of the brand new Olympic Park has also turned what was once contaminated industrial land into one of the most exciting parts of the capital. Find out more about the transformation of the Olympic Park site.

Boosting UK businesses

The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games have given companies across the UK a boost during what have been extremely challenging economic times.

Over £7 billion of contracts have been generated by the London 2012 Games, with businesses creating tens of thousands of new jobs that would not have otherwise existed.

Through the comprehensive licensing and merchandise programme, the Games are expected to drive around £1 billion in sales to the UK high street.

The Games have also had a wider impact on UK business and industry. In winning contracts and working on the Games, many businesses and their supply chains have had to change their working practices, from improving their equality and inclusion or health and safety policies to developing new approaches to sustainable or accessible design that can be applied in their future work.
