Has the Cultural Olympiad been 'dropped'?

No. The Cultural Olympiad has not been 'dropped', as Simon Jenkins suggested in the Evening Standard; it will continue to gather momentum towards 2012.

As the paper reported last week, we are looking for a new title which will better express the great festival of culture which will run alongside the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012.

All of us want to use 2012 as a showcase for what Britain does so well - we have the best arts and culture in the world!

I wonder if the olympic games will promote any British culture? Just finished watching that Canadian Closing ceremony, their olympics bought the country together and made them all prouder Canadians.

Will the London olympics do the day thing here? Sadly i very much doubt it and this was one of the reasons i originally opposed us having these games. What this "board" is called really will not make any difference or matter to people.

What is important is British identity, culture and tradition is promoted during these games. Whilst i am sure we can expect an endless flood of "multicultural Britain" it must be done in a uniting way.

British Watcher, I suggest you embrace the Games. You will regret it if you don't. You've got them anyway so don't make the mistake of fighting them all the way. The experience here in Vancouver was electric and something we will never forget for the friends we made, the neighbours we never really knew etc.
